13 March 2022 – Second Sunday of Lent

COVID-19 GOVERNMENT RESTRICTION UPDATE

achdiocese_of_toronto_logo_v2

Effective March 21 2022

Mask wearing indoors will no longer be mandatory. You are most welcome to continue wearing a mask if it makes you more comfortable.

Please continue sanitizing upon church entry. Please also continue to self-monitor for symptoms and stay home from church if you are experiencing symptoms. Thank you!

Starting March 21, individuals aged 18 and older, who have received their COVID-19 booster shot and who are asymptomatic for COVID, do not need to self-isolate when they are in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 (including if the sick person is a member of their household.) The self-isolations requirement is also lifted for those younger than 18 years old who are asymptomatic and who have had two COVID-19 vaccine doses. If you meet these criteria, for 10 days you must wear a mask in public, refrain from elective visits to medical settings and avoid physical contact with those who are vulnerable to COVID.

Those who do not meet the above criteria and who have a COVID-19 close contact, must continue to self-isolate according to current provincial regulation.

LENTEN STATIONS OF THE CROSS

HUMANITARIAN RELIEF FOR UKRAINE

Ukraine has been plunged into war after the Russian military invaded the country, resulting in widespread violence and a looming humanitarian crisis. In response to the request of parishioners, the Archdiocese of Toronto has launched a humanitarian relief effort to help the Ukrainian people at this time.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian civilians have already fled their homes and are trying to find shelter in neighbouring countries. The United Nations estimates that there could eventually be up to five million Ukrainian refugees, depending on how the war transpires.

The Archdiocese of Toronto will channel donations to support the Office for Refugees, Archdiocese of Toronto (ORAT) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA). CNEWA is a papal agency with a long history of humanitarian relief; it is currently working in Eastern Europe, providing Ukrainians with food, shelter, medicine and transportation to safe locations. ORAT is Canada’s largest private Sponsorship Agreement Holder, which helps bring hundreds of newcomers to our country each year; it will use donations to bring Ukrainian refugees to Canada as soon as possible.

Your donation will help Ukrainians who are beset by violence in Eastern Europe and it will help some of them find a new home in Canada.

Those wishing to help may do so in the following ways:

  • Online through the Archdiocese of Toronto website: www.archtoronto.org
  • By phone through the Development Office – 416-934-3411
  • Through the parish, making cheques payable to:

Pre-Authorised giving  A set donation figure of your choosing is withdrawn from your bank account on the 20th of each month.  Please contact the parish office to set this up.

If you have any questions regarding methods of donating,  please email or phone the parish office.

Thank you for your many and varied contributions to our parish community!

Dear parishioners,

I hope and pray that you are staying healthy – both physically and spiritually. Please let me know if the parish can help you during these difficult times.

No doubt you are aware that our parish relies on the support of our parishioners to operate – parish salaries, programs and ongoing operating costs (heating, water, electricity, etc.) – are funded through the generosity of our parish community. It will be a challenge for our parish to maintain operations without the weekly offertory collection.

In response to many queries that I have received from parishioners, I offer below some of the ways that you may continue to support our parish if you are in a position to do so.  I recognise that many of you, like the parish, are experiencing financial strain at this time and I pray that those stresses are soon eased for you.

For those in a position to continue to give to our parish, the easiest on-line options would be through the Archdiocese Donate Now link. Through this link you can give to the parish by credit card.  These donations are handled by the Archdiocese.  The donation is directed to the parish of your choice. The parish receives a monthly report of all donations made to the parish via this method and tax receipts are issued to donors at year end by the Archdiocese (one-time gifts are receipted at time of giving).

Pre-Authorised giving is also an option.  A set donation figure of your choosing is withdrawn from your bank account on the 20th of each month.   We have a number of parishioners who give by this method. Please contact the office if you wish to set this up.

Weekly envelopes may still be used -  mailed to the parish or dropped off.

Thank you for your many contributions to our parish community. I miss seeing all of you at the Mass and I pray daily that we will be able to gather together again soon.

Yours in Christ,

Father Joseph
Pastor,  St. Cecilia
