WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY JAN. 18-25

Do good; seek justice”  - Isaiah 1:17

Every year between January 18-25, Christians around the world are invited to celebrate a Week of Prayer for the unity of all Christians, reflect on scripture together, participate in jointly-organized ecumenical services, and share fellowship.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity began as an eight-day period of prayer called the Church Unity Octave at Graymoor, USA and was established by founders of the Society of the Atonement, Mother Lurana White, SA, and Fr. Paul Wattson, an Episcopalian priest who would later join the Catholic church. The event is now celebrated world-wide.

This year’s message of Isaiah 1:17, “Do good; seek justice” inspires all of us to pray and work together for the unity willed by Christ for the Church.

The theme laments a lack of justice among the People of God. Yet it also promises redemption by encouraging acts of justice. Like Isaiah, we hope to inspire a renewed desire and effort for justice among the Christian peoples around the world.
