1 January 2023 – The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

World Day of Peace

The World Day of Peace was established by Pope Paul VI in 1968 who asked that 'every year, this commemoration be repeated as a hope and as a promise, at the beginning of the calendar which measures and outlines the path of human life in time, that Peace with its just and beneficent equilibrium may dominate the development of events to come." Each year has a specific theme, chosen by the Holy Father. (Ordo 2021-2022)

"There is light, even in our darkest hour"

Pope Francis, in his 2023 message for the World Day of Peace, recalls that all crises are interconnected and that we must not forget any of them, but work for the good of humanity.

He goes further, saying, "when tragic events seem to overwhelm our lives, we are called to keep our hearts open to hope and to trust in God, who makes himself present, accompanies us with tenderness, sustains us in our weariness and, above all, guides our path.”
