18 September 2022 – Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

You are invited  to read Cardinal Thomas Collins' Pastoral Letter on Stewardship. The letter is both a reflective guide and an urgent exhortation for Catholics to be aware of God’s gracious gifts and to live fully, gratefully, in service to others.

The letter unpacks the meaning of “deep stewardship” in everyday Christian life: the acknowledgment that we have received everything from God, and are “asked to make good use of what has been entrusted to us” with “creativity and boldness” while regularly examining how we use the gifts God has given us.

Stewardship challenges us to a deeper conversion, both as individuals, and as a community, to give generously of our time, talent, and treasure, and to be totally, joyfully engaged in discipleship in both our parish home and the wider community as a whole.

Serving the Greater Master

The Lord’s exhortation that “you cannot serve God and wealth” can be difficult to swallow. In order to foster a healthy attitude towards our wealth, it is important to view it, and our very lives themselves, as a gift from God. When we view our wealth as a gift we can then begin to move from gratitude to generosity, graciously sharing our gifts with others for the glory of God and the church.

The annual event of Season of Creation began on September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. Each year an ecumenical steering committee selects a theme.  This year, inspiration is taken from Psalm 19:1-4 that proclaims, “Listen to the Voice of Creation.” A short video to introduce this season may be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyjUTvGmliI

If you've been serving in parish ministry and are looking for an opportunity to connect with others serving in ministry to pray together, learn together and to be re-energised, you won't want to miss this upcoming Archdiocesan conference.

The conference will feature keynote speaker Julianne Stanz (joining us live from Green Bay, WI) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In four engaging and interactive sessions, she will help us to set forth a vision for moving into the deep waters of missionary discipleship with joy, humour and practical insights. On Saturday, we will begin with Mass with Cardinal Thomas Collins as principal celebrant and homilist. The Auxiliary Bishops of Toronto will join us for a live discussion on missionary discipleship in our parishes. Come see our sponsors and pastoral exhibitors and enjoy fellowship with one another over a continental breakfast and buffet lunch.

St. Cecilia's Parish Building Renovation

Phase 1 of the Hall renovation is nearing completion.  We are hoping to have a firm handover date soon so that we can confidently plan Fall/Winter events. Updates will be announced as they are made available.  Thank you for your support and prayers.

A new platform and new handrails for the front entrance are currently being installed.  Please note that this necessary work is separate from the work in the Hall and is being undertaken by a different contractor.

NEXT WEEKEND, September 24/25th 2022

This collection will be held in our parish on September 24th and 25th. Special collection envelopes are available at the back of the church this weekend.  Thank you for your support.
